Module Outline

Recruitment is one of the most important decisions a manager makes and one of the most costly to get wrong. This module gives managers a practical, end-to-end framework for recruiting the right people, helping them make fair, informed decisions that support both team performance and long-term business success.
In this module, we will explore:
- Defining the role clearly: skills, behaviours and expectations
- Writing and reviewing job adverts that attract the right candidates
- Shortlisting fairly and avoiding unconscious bias
- Structuring interviews and asking effective questions
- Making selection decisions based on evidence, not “gut feel”
- Communicating offers and setting expectations from day one
- Common recruitment pitfalls in SMEs and how to avoid them
By the end of this module, managers will be able to:
- Approach recruitment with greater confidence and clarity
- Make fair, consistent and well‑reasoned hiring decisions
- Reduce the risk of mis‑hires and early performance issues
- Set new starters up for success from the outset
