Module Outline

This module provides managers and HR professionals with a clear, practical understanding of the technical and procedural aspects of redundancy. It is designed to support those who may be directly involved in planning or implementing a redundancy process.
The session focuses on helping participants understand how redundancy works in practice, from establishing the business case through to consultation, selection and identifying alternatives to redundancy. It balances legal and procedural requirements with the need to manage people sensitively during a period of significant change.
This module is particularly suited to managers in SMEs, standalone HR professionals, and those supporting organisational change who need a solid grounding in redundancy processes, without unnecessary legal complexity.
We will cover:
- What redundancy is and what it isn’t
- The difference between redundancy, restructuring and reorganisation
- Establishing and understanding the business case for redundancy
- How to decide on the selection pool and selection criteria
- Exploring ways to avoid redundancy where possible
- Understanding consultation and its purpose
- Preparing for conversations with affected employees
- Supporting individuals through a period of uncertainty and change
- Identifying suitable alternative employment
- Collective redundancies.
By the end of this module, managers will be able to:
- Understand what redundancy is, and clearly distinguish it from restructuring or reorganisation
