Managing absence is one of the most common and challenging responsibilities for line managers. This workshop gives managers a clear framework for managing absence fairly, consistently and confidently, while maintaining positive working relationships and minimising disruption to the business.
In this module, we will explore:
- The purpose of an absence policy and the manager’s role in applying it
- Different types of absence and how they should be managed
- How to conduct supportive, effective return‑to‑work meetings
- How to identify patterns of absence and address concerns early
- When absence becomes a performance or capability issue
- When and how to escalate to HR for further support
By the end of this module, managers will be able to:
- Handle absence conversations with confidence and consistency
- Apply absence procedures fairly across their team
Take early, appropriate action to prevent issues escalating
