What is it about?
Managing people can be complicated and the legal process surrounding employment can be a bit of a minefield. Your employees are a key asset to your business and its overall success and with the shortage of skilled individuals, particularly in engineering functions, it can pay to ensure you manage and lead your employees in an optimal manner. The focus on principles and policies such as equality and diversity, recruitment and performance management means that organisation come under more scrutiny than ever. For example, if bidding for HS2 contracts, your policies will play a significant part in whether you are considered as an appropriate organisation.
This interactive workshop will provide you with a toolkit consisting of standard policies and practical tips on how to implement these by embedding them in the way that your organisation operates.
What will it be like?
The workshop will be delivered by leading experts in the field of HR including our own Director Sarah Loates. Sarah is a chartered HR professional with over 20 years HR experience. During this time she has provided HR advice and support to a wide range of industry types and sectors, ranging from private and family owned businesses whilst at PKF Cooper Parry, to the leadership level of multinational corporations such as E.ON. Sarah’s areas of expertise include employee relations, employment law and talent management.
It will take the format of:
- 8.00am – Refreshments and Networking
- 8.15am – An introduction to useful Policies
- 8.35am – Making your policies valuable
- 9.15am – Quick break
- 9.30am – Practical people management
- 9.50am – Give it a go!
- 11.00am – Finish

Who We Are
Enscite is a three-year collaboration between the University of Derby, Aston University and Derby City Council to support businesses in the planes, trains and automobile sectors to improve their productivity to facilitate growth and competitive advantage. It is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Company Eligibility Criteria
This workshop is for companies with:
- Under 250 employees
- Turnover not exceeding €50 million
- Trading office located in the D2N2 LEP area
- A business that is part of the Planes, Trains and Automobiles Supply Chain
Unfortunately Statutory Provision or Under 18’s are not eligible.
