Dealing with people or situations can be the most challenging aspect owners and managers have to handle. Often these are put in the ‘too hard to do pile’ and managers may put off the conversations they know they need to have.


The event will be split into two sessions, covering both tools & techniques and practical application, each presented by a training specialist in that area.

Tools & Techniques

This sessions explores why some conversations are difficult to have, the types of difficult people and situations, and provides tools and techniques to change our thinking.

Practical Application

This session provides practical tips on how to get to the point when having difficult conversations.

Shona Neish

Sarah Loates

Sarah is the founder and lead trainer of Loates HR Training, which provides practical HR & employment law courses for business owners and managers. She is also is the founder of 5-star rated HR consultancy Loates HR Consultancy, and a practising senior HR consultant with over 20 years of experience across a wide range of company types and industry sectors. Sarah's considerable personal hands-on HR expertise allows her to adopt a practical and business-focussed approach within her training. As a result, she is able to bring theory to life with numerous interesting real-world examples, and show you the best ways to effectively deal with the types of tricky HR and employment law issues that you're actually likely to face in practice. And since Sarah is a current CIPD trainer, and has also taught at several local universities, she knows how to deliver engaging courses that fully involve participants through practical exercises, case studies, and Q&A sessions.
