Overview

Are you seeing higher levels of absenteeism in your team? Have you noticed any of your colleagues experiencing symptoms of poor mental health? Are you keen to offer help and support but are unsure about how to start a conversation about mental health?

Discussing mental health can be daunting, and fear of saying the wrong thing can become an unhelpful barrier. By the end of this workshop, you’ll know how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and understand the most appropriate terminology and language to use when starting a conversation.

We’ll discuss practical ways to listen without judgement and how best to approach a sensitive situation, including awareness of useful resources and how to access additional professional support.

You’ll leave this workshop with knowledge of common mental health challenges, action planning and conversation templates, and an appreciation of how your own self-care can facilitate providing better support for others.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Recognise when to start a conversation about mental health
  • Speak to colleagues in a way that makes them feel heard and supported
  • Direct someone to the most appropriate professional help
  • Recognise your own need for self-care and set your own boundaries

Format

When it comes to delivering online courses, we understand that everyone learns differently, which is why we facilitate a variety of different activities to enhance your understanding of the workshop content.

We encourage open discussion and participation, giving you the opportunity to exchange knowledge, engage in teamwork and work on your communication skills! We want to hear what you’ve got to say, so ask that your cameras and mics are switched on for the session.

You’ll have the chance to work individually and within small break-out groups as we complete a range of exercises including quizzes and polls, ultimately building both your confidence and expertise.

For a more personalised experience and to ensure a truly interactive workshop, we’ve found that group numbers are best kept between 8 and 10 delegates, with no more than 12 spaces being available.

Resources Included

We will provide you with a PDF of the workshop slides, copies of relevant handouts and a list of book recommendations discussed during the session!
